Pre-Production Plan:

Day 1:

Job Assignments: Crew Breakdown

All: Write a narrative story of the events in your project. 3 to 5 paragraphs.

Breakout:

Director/DP/1^st AD/Grip

Choose the final pitch and story structure. Complete story form.

Makeup/Wardrobe

Create a list of characters, including at least 2 relevant details. Sketch them out.

Art Department:

Describe the setting in as much detail as possible, including color scheme, location, textures, and important details. What is IN this room? Is it dark, bright, etc? Create a master sketch of the room and a list of props and set materials needed.

Day 2:

All: Complete narrative story of the events in your project. 3 to 5 paragraphs.

Breakout:

Director/DP/Grip

Location scout, take photos, and calculate load for room. Begin storyboard.

1^st AD

Begin reviewing shooting schedule; work with Ms. T on creating a Call Sheet.

Makeup/Wardrobe

Evaluate existing makeup kit, wardrobe and props. Create list of clothes and makeup needed. Submit final character/face sketches and list.

Art Department:

Evaluate location for existing props and set dressing. Evaluate existing props collection. Create final list of props and set materials needed, and research budget.

Help Director team on storyboard.

Day 3:

All: Narrative story due for project. 3 to 5 paragraphs.

Practice shoot: Review notes on shooting process and practice process in setup.

Complete any lingering team assignments as necessary.

Day 4-6:

Using narrative story, complete draft script for project (3 to 5 pages). Due at end of Day 6.

Day 7:

Team evaluates and votes on a final script. Revise as necessary and hand in.

Day 8:

1^st AD reviews Call Sheet with team. Final shooting schedule is devised.

All Art Department must have wardrobe, props and makeup ready.

Talent gets a copy of the script.

Day 9:

Creating a shooting script. Review with class, then breakout into teams. 1^st AD leads with Director and Art Dept. Head to create shooting script.

Talent will rehearse. Makeup practices on a “victim”.

Gaffer/Grip team will practice lighting for the shoot and create a list of equipment needed. Demo with Ms. T: Flags, Silks and Stops.

DP and Camera Op: Review storyboard and practice key shots & camera setup. Review with Ms. T: The 180 Degree Rule

PRODUCTION!

Day 10-15

Shooting.

Day 16-22

Editing. Demo with Ms. T: Creating a Soundtrack in Garage Band.

CSI1: (Lighting & Composition) Murder Scene for the 9^th grade CSI Project

CS2: (Set Design) Interrogation Room for the 9^th grade CSI Project

SAW 10: (Talent, Tight Script) 5 kids trapped in a room. They’re taken out, one by one, and return terrified and unable to speak. What’s going on?!?!

PSA: (Teamwork, Pressure, Site/Talent/Time Mgmt) Class of 2012 PSA

Library Girl: (Special FX, Art Direction, DP) A lonely girl with no friends spends all her time in the library. One night, she gets locked in, and the books come to life.

Clue: (Talent (Strong Characters), Makeup FX, Grip/Gaffer) 5 people stuck in a room….only problem is, one of them is dead! Who’s the killer?

Pd. 7

Killer in the Barbershop: (Tight Script, DP, Set Design, 1^st AD, Wardrobe) A serial killer wanders into a barbershop for a haircut. When the news announces that he’s on the run, the barber must figure out how to survive.

Game Show: (Talent, Props, SFX, Wardrobe) 5 contestants compete to stay in one room longer than anyone else, to win $1 million. But how long can they last against poison gas, slimy bugs and encroaching walls???

Pd. 2

Infected Air: (Talent, Lighting, Wardobe, Makeup) A small group of people survives a deadly gas attack by sealing themselves in a room. But how long until they run out of air?

WhoDunnit: (Talent, Sound, Lighting) 4 teenagers locked in a room, trying to get out. Only problem is….one of them is responsible for trapping the group inside!

Mad Scientist: (Props, Makeup, Wardrobe, Lighting, Talent) A mad scientist tries to prove himself to colleagues by inventing a Teleporting machine; but it doesn’t work so well, and he traps himself in the 6^th dimension!

Check it out! We're officially gearing up to offer Dual Credit for the CNM Film 1001 "Workflow" Class! Students who have signed up for Digital Film Production 2 are eligible to take the Accuplacer test to see if they qualify.

Students who meet minimum test scores, pass Film 1 with a "C" or better, and are enrolled in Digital Film 2 next year will be able to take the course and earn 3 college credits at the same time. Best of all--it's free, and happens right here on campus, during class!

'Hurt Locker,' Director Bigelow Take Top Oscars

The Iraq War drama The Hurt Locker won best picture and five other prizes Sunday at the Academy Awards, including best director for Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow is the first woman in the 82-year history of the Oscars to earn Hollywood's top prize for filmmakers.
