BONUS: Ianna, Lisa and Mariah

Congrats to Ianna G, Lisa C. and Mariah J., who were the only students to read the fine print on Wednesday's blog.  They've earned 5 bonus points to spend however they see fit!

It always pays to read the directions.  All of them. ;)

Wednesday, April 24th DFP2

Period 5:  By the end of class today, you should:
-->
·      Watch several example videos on YouTube that match your "How To" category.  Be ready to explain to the substitute WHY this example is relevant to your idea.
·      You must spend at least the last 30 minutes of class typing step-by-step directions in Microsoft Word.  These directions are for your “How-To” video.  This ensures you won’t forget a step in the script.  ALL students must print their list with their name on it, and turn it in to the sub by 12:00 p.m.  Don’t wait until the last minute---it backs up the printer.
·      The only exception is Kevin Rodriguez---he’s allowed to edit the class’s “Horror” film for part of the period.

Periods 3 & 7
By the end of class today, you should:
  • Have a working definition of your subgenre
  • Have chosen a format for your Power Point and started creating slides
  • Have found a list of several example films in your Subgenre
  • Have a list of key Art Department, Plot and Character Elements
  • Have found 2 or 3 trailers to choose from for your example clip

Review the Presentation Guidelines in the post from Thursday, April 11th for more info.
We will start Presentations next week.

Period 5:  We continue with SciFi Presentations, today and tomorrow.  When we finish, we'll start researching "How To" videos.  Share an example with your classmates.

How To Dress Like A Ninja
How to Straighten Your Hair Without Heat
How to Win in Halo 3
How to Kick A Soccer Ball

Friday, April 19th

Soooooo much to cover.

First, and most important:  Digital Desert Film Festival!!!
Quick Time submissions, and all paperwork, are DUE!
.MOV files should be copied to the "Digital Desert" folder on the Hard Drive.
Turn in all paperwork to me after copying your video.

NEXT:  Hooorraaaaaay for Cookie!
This Sunday, our very own Tatyana "Cookie" Zavala will be part of a Young Filmmakers' Panel at the Santa Fe Center for Contemporary Arts (obviously, in Santa Fe).  The Panel, which starts at 11:00 a.m., focuses on what youth are doing in film and media in New Mexico.  This event promises to have a HUGE audience, mostly film professionals, who are curious about what you're learning to do.  Thanks to Cookie for agreeing to represent one of the finest High School Film Programs in the STATE!!!!!  See you there.

Periods 3 & 7:
  • Submit films and paperwork
  • Submit copy of StopMotion Animation to the "StopMo 2013" folder on the Hard Drive
  • Vote for your Genre Presentations!
  • Pearl (3rd) and Liz (7th)---Vocab make-up test

Period 5:  We start subgenre presentations today!  First up:  Futuristic, followed by Horrific, then Graphic Novel.  Don't forget, our next assignment is "How 2"---creating a fun, entertaining and informative Instructional Video.

Wed., April 17th

Pearl, Mikaela and Johnny (3rd)
Michael and Ryan (5th)
Elizabeth, Andrew, Jesus, Julian, Devon, Kaharie and Cookie (7th)

All Classes:  Submissions for the Digital Desert Film Festival are due.  Please export a high-resolution Quick Time File to your Desktop, and copy it to the Hard Drive folder marked "Digital Desert 2013".  Check with me to make sure all paperwork has been submitted.

Remember, this is your chance to show what you've done to the world.  If no one else sees it.....does it really exist???

Periods 3 & 7:  Stop-Motion Animation Editing should be complete today.  Export your Quick Time file to the Desktop (save with the title of your project), and copy to the Hard Drive folder titled "StopMotion 2013".

Monday, April 15th

HI All!  Hope you had a great weekend.  Here's the big deal this week:

Submissions for the Digital Desert Film Festival are due by Friday.  I have to have Quick Time files, and ALL paperwork, by Friday in order to burn a DVD to take to Valley HS that afternoon.

Periods 3 & 7:  See posts from April 8th (citations) and April 3rd (grading rubric) for info on finishing your StopMo Animation.

Period 5:  Today you must use your research resources to accomplish the following:
  1. A working definition of your sub-genre IN YOUR OWN WORDS.  You may "quote" short passages from resources in your definition (no more than 8 words), but must cite that resource on the same Power Point slide.
  2. A list of at least 4 example films, and the year they were released, for your subgenre.
  3. A list of key characteristics in these categories:
    • Art Department
    • Plot
    • Characters

You can create all of this in Word, or start Power Point slides if you wish.
This gives everyone in your group at least one thing to accomplish today.  If you are sitting around just talking, letting someone else do all the work, you will receive a zero for the day and must call home to explain your lack of productivity to your family.
